- A new exhibition, "Barns & Brush," opens today at the Cultural Arts Council (CAC) of Douglasville. The exhibition features work by four talented artists which depict picturesque views of the rural south. The artists will gather tonight, Aug. 3, for an opening reception at the CAC, which begins at 6:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. (Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville via Facebook)
- In these hot summer months, the Douglas County Humane Society reminds all pet owners to be aware of heat stroke in pets. To be safe, pet owners should learn to recognize warning signs in dogs and how to administer first aid treatment. Signs of heat stroke include excessive panting, discolored gums, lethargy, and vomiting, and pet owners are urged to keep their pets cool and bring them to the vet immediately should they notice any signs of heat stroke. - Alexander High School alum Tyler Goode was recruited to New Mexico State University to join the Aggies' cross-country distance team, starting his freshman season this month. In 2022, Goode helped the Alexander Cougars secure a state championship in the 4x800 relay event — the fourth fastest in Alexander High School history. (NM State)
- WSB-TV released the heartbreaking statistic that at least 82 Georgia teens have lost their lives to gun violence so far this year — including several from Douglasville. This statistic amounts to Georgia teenagers falling victim to gun violence on a near-daily basis in 2023. In addition to teens and children who were killed, dozens more have been injured by gunfire since the beginning of the year. - Save the date: On Sep. 11, Douglas County will commemorate Patriot Day, a national observance memorializing the lives lost in the Sep. 11 attacks.
