Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:

  1. The Punkintown Nature Preserve Park is nearing completion, with the new pedestrian bridge being put in place on Thursday. Chairman Phil Miller, Vice-Chair Tarenia Carthan, who spearheaded the project, and Commissioner Kelly Robinson were on-site to speak about the project and the nature-centric opportunities the new park will create for visitors. Locals can look forward to miles of trails, picnic shelters, and outdoor classrooms when the park reopens at the end of the year. (Douglas County Happenings via Facebook)
  2. Yesterday, Douglas County Parks & Recreation announced two adult co-ed sports opportunities that local residents can take advantage of this August. Kickball season starts on Aug. 15th and dodgeball season starts on Jul. 25th. All games take place at Deer Lick Park on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.   3. The Cultural Arts Center of Douglasville's current art gallery exhibition, "Reflective Flowers," closes on Thurs., Jul. 27. Don't miss your opportunity to see these beautiful, evocative paintings before the next installation goes on view.   4. This week, the Douglas County Museum of History and Art announced an upcoming fall exhibition featuring all local artists and artisans. "Sew Much More Than Barbie" will open to the public on Nov. 1 and will include crosstitching, needlepointing, knitting, and crocheting in a variety of styles. This week, the Douglasville Police Department announced that donors to its upcoming blood drive on Aug. 1 will have the chance to win a private shark dive at the Long Island Aquarium in New York. Donating blood provides lifesaving support to those in need, and the American Red Cross especially urges those with Type O blood to consider donating.
