New Manchester High School Vocal, Dramatic Groups Honored

"Chicago" is up for three Shuler Awards​, while the school's cappella​ vocal group has been chosen one of the nine best in the nation.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA -- The New Manchester High School drama and vocal students are proving they've got talent. The NMHS production of "Chicago" has been nominated for three Shuler Awards, while the school's cappella vocal group has been chosen one of the nine best in the nation.

Students in "Chicago" lit up the theater at New Manchester High School last weekend. For the first time, the school tried out for the prestigious Shuler awards and won three nominations in the following categories:

Best Ensemble
Best Leading Actor -- Ilario Grant
Best Costumes -- Trey Giddens

Fashioned after Broadway's Tony Awards, the Shuler Awards celebrate excellence in high school musical theater in Georgia. Schools across the state will be celebrated at the Shuler Awards ceremony on April 18 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

New Manchester High School's a cappella vocal group InToneNation won the Varsity Vocals ICHSA South Semi-final competition March 2 in Durham, North Carolina. The group will now compete in the finals in New York City April 27 as one of the top nine high school a cappella groups in the country.

In addition to Tyler Lewis' award for best solo vocal performance, the group won an award for best choreography.

ICHSA, billed as the real-life "Pitch Perfect," provides global tournaments that showcase the art of student a cappella. ICHSA stands for International Championship of High School A Cappella. InToneNation is under the direction of Trey Giddens.
