  1. The free Wednesday Wind Down Concert Series is taking place every Wednesday night until Jul. 26 in Douglasville. The concerts feature DJ music from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and live performances from 7:00-9:30 p.m. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs but are not allowed to bring tables, tarps, plastic ground coverings, or shade structures like tents or canopies. (Douglasville, GA - Government)
  2. A substantial heatwave is heading directly for Douglasville this weekend! Significant humidity in the air will add to heat index values as the high-pressure area hovers over the eastern United States. Heat Index values are expected to climb into the hundreds. Remember to take safety precautions such as frequent breaks, and wearing light-colored loose-fitting clothing, if you work or play outdoors. (95.5 WSB)
  3. Nearby East Point will host a spectacular Independence Day Celebration. The theme is a "Salute to the Red, White, and Blue Hometown Celebration." Pets are not permitted, and several roads will be closed. Live musical performances will include Vince Ashton, Korine Deanna Lane, Kove and Zack Spade. A fireworks display said to be the largest in South Fulton County, will begin at 9:30 p.m. (South Fulton Neighbor)
  4. Douglasville Officer Carroll recently encountered a subject with a mental health issue and utilized her training to handle the situation, keeping her distance and trying to de-escalate it. However, when the agitated suspect attempted to approach a nearby group of civilians, Officer Carroll intervened to protect the public. Bystanders Cesar Betancourt, Aldo Betancourt, and off-duty Deputy Crumley came to her aid, choosing to assist in restraining the suspect rather than just recording the incident on their phones. Chief Sparks commended their actions, emphasizing their commitment to upholding the law and their willingness to support law enforcement when needed. (Douglasville Police Department via Facebook)
  5. The new officers of the Georgia Municipal Association were sworn in on Monday, Jun. 26. One of which was council member Sam Davis of Douglasville. The full slate of officers and members of the 2023-2024 board can be found at the link. (Jackson Progress-Argus)
