- Partners In Education's "Dancing with the Stars" event was held on Oct. 16. K’Asha Davis, of Chapel Hill Elementary School, and Jemiah Swinney, a student dancer from New Manchester High School’s FAME program, took top honors from the judges. Trevor Quander from Georgia Power, along with his student dancer Carson Williams, won the People’s Choice Award. At the end of the show, Partners In Education presented a check for $1,000 to New Manchester High School’s FAME program for devoting countless hours of time and talent to make this a successful event. - District III Commissioner Tarenia Carthan is hosting a Breast Care Tea Brunch event for Senior Citizens on Friday, Oct. 28 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The brunch for Douglas County women ages 55 and up will be held at the Connect Douglas Transportation Center’s Risk & Safety Training Room. Commissioner Carthan said, “Senior Citizens are Douglas County’s golden jewels and good health is true wealth, and I look forward to them attending this event.” (Press Release Desk)
- The Douglas County Sheriff's Office seeks public assistance in locating a suspected murderer. Maryanne Humphrey was killed on Sep. 21, 2009, at Circle K in Douglasville. Anyone who recognizes the man in the photo at the link or has any information on Humphrey's death is asked to contact the Sheriff's Department. (Douglas County Sheriff's Office)
- The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County is in the midst of presenting its first Members Photography Competition. The competition will run through Nov. 21. The opening reception will be held on Nov. 3, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., by the Douglas County Task Force. Prizes will include first place for $200, second place for $150, third place for $100, and a People’s Choice award will be announced at the end of September for $50.
