  1. Hunter Park will be undergoing renovations through the end of the month. Once completed, the park will have updated slides, climbers, and play panels. The upgrades will include accessible reach panels for children in wheelchairs to be able to participate in multiple activities. There will also be new rubber surface flooring installed.   2. The City of Douglasville is hosting a Mother's Day Brunch today (May 10) from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Hawthorne Community Center!   3. Douglas County Parks and Recreation is hosting a free Fishing Derby this Saturday at Deer Lick Park. The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., and there will be prizes and trophies for the biggest catch in each age group. Be sure to bring your fishing pole, bait, chair, and bucket.   4. Gas prices are continuing to fall in and around Atlanta as demand has dropped and concerns over an approaching global recession have impacted oil markets. According to AAA, the average price of a gallon of gas in the Atlanta area is currently $3.54, which is about six cents less than a week ago and 60 cents less than a year ago. (GPB News)
  5. A fundraiser has been started to support two hospital workers who were injured in the recent shooting at Northside Hospital in nearby Atlanta. Both women are receiving treatment at Grady Memorial Hospital. Northside Hospital reopened most practices on Monday after being closed for several days. There is additional security at the hospital, as well as spiritual leaders and human resources representatives to support the hospital's workforce.
