Six Attorneys Vying To Replace Longtime Douglas County Judge

Chief Superior Court Judge David Emerson will resign this month, and six attorneys are being considered for appointment to his role.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Six local attorneys are up for consideration to replace Douglas County Chief Superior Court Judge David Emerson, who is stepping down at the end of the year.

Emerson announced his decision to resign in late October to spend more time with family after serving as a judge for 31 years. The Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC) accepted applications from local attorneys through Nov. 22, the Douglas County Sentinel reported.

The six attorneys — Scott Camp, Zaine Hedge, Nicole Jones, Talia J. Nurse, Deah B. Warren and Wesley Woolverton — will now be interviewed, and a "short list" of candidates will be sent to Gov. Brian Kemp for consideration. Kemp can appoint one of the nominated candidates or select someone else.
