- As an update to a previously-reported story, the two teenagers who were killed at a weekend "Sweet 16" house party in Douglasville have now been identified by officials. During a news conference, Douglas County Sheriff's Captain Jon Mauney identified the victims of a shooting as 15-year-old Samuel Moon and 14-year-old Ajanaye Hill. Seven additional teenagers were reportedly injured in the shooting and taken to a local hospital. The Sheriff's Office is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of a suspect. (Douglasville Patch)
- The Douglas County School System is recognizing School Social Work Week this week to honor the critical role school social workers play in promoting students' mental health and well-being. The annual celebration, sponsored by the School Social Work Association of America, highlights the essential work of school social workers in creating and maintaining positive and supportive school climates. The theme for National School Social Work Week 2023 is "We Rise," acknowledging the dedication and commitment of school social workers to support their students, families, and school communities. - The Douglasville Police Department is hosting a Spring Festival & Safety Expo on Apr. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its headquarters, featuring activities like egg hunts, touch-a-truck, and a K-9 demonstration. The event is free and open to the public, and food, vendors, and other fun activities will available for guests to enjoy. Vendor registration is available until Mar. 20 for a fee of $40. - As a reminder, the Blairs Bridge Road single-lane closure is still in effect until tomorrow, Mar. 10. The Douglasville-Douglas County Water-Sewer Authority (DDCWSA) has been performing work on Blairs Bridge Road this week in relation to the Cobb Sewer Tunnel Connection, resulting in the closure of one westbound lane for approximately 400 feet west of the Blairs Bridge Road/Bob Arnold Boulevard intersection. The closure will remain in effect from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today and tomorrow, and flaggers will be present to direct traffic. It is recommended that alternate routes be taken if possible.
