Here are the top five stories today in Douglasville:

  1. Next month, the Douglas County Chamber will present the 2023 Douglas County Small Business Awards to local small businesses. Winners will be awarded on Wednesday, Jul. 19 at the Douglasville Conference Center to recognize their ingenuity and achievements in various categories, such as Small Business of the Year, Small Businesses to Watch, and Legacy in Business.   2. There's a lot to look forward to in the coming months in Douglasville. The City of Douglasville recently added a number of exciting events to its Facebook page, from a Summer Picnic taking place on Saturday, Jul. 15, to Screen on the Green events starting Friday, Jul. 7 and Food Truck Mondays starting Monday, Jul. 17.   3. During the months of June and July, Douglas County students can eat healthy breakfast and lunch school meals at no cost. The free meals will be provided to students at 13 local sites thanks to a federally-funded, state-administered program. This is also the first year that the school system is preparing hot sandwiches to be delivered to camps for children. (Douglas County School System)
  4. In honor of Douglas County School System Coach Chester "Chet" Forsh's many years and accomplishments with the school system, Georgia State Senator Kim Jackson recently honored him and named a portion of Fairburn Road "Coach Forsh Road."   5. The Cultural Arts Council's upcoming Cheers to the Arts Beer & Buddies event will take place this Thursday, Jun. 15 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Taco Mac in Douglasville. Once completed, the Transit Master Plan will serve as a roadmap for improving public transit and identify short, mid, and long-range needs, improvements, and investments for Connect Douglas.   • The Douglas County Fire and EMS Department recently offered a few safety tips and warnings for the summer.
