- The Douglasville State of the City Address will be held on Thursday, May 4. The address will be held in the Douglasville Conference Center at 6 p.m. and will cover all of the latest developments within the city, the community initiatives taken over the last year, and the achievements that the city has made. - Meghan Danielle of Douglasville advanced to the top eight of American Idol Monday night with a heartfelt rendition of βGo Rest High on That Mountainβ by Vince Gill. Danielle was fighting back emotions on the Idol stage as she sang the Vince Gill song chosen by Luke Bryan. This song just so happened to be the song that Danielle also sang at her grandfather's funeral and this performance was a way to honor her grandfather. The judges had positive feedback for her, saying that her rendition of the song was perfect. Danielle will perform in the top eight on American Idol on May 7. (Macon Telegraph)
- The City of Douglasville will be celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month! The "More Than Enough" campaign aims to remind everyone of the inherent value that each person holds. No matter your background, your life situation, or your economic or social status, just showing up as who you are for yourself and the people around you is "More Than Enough." - Douglas County Librarian Kristi Wilson won the Westie Award for staff member of the year for West Georgia's Regional Library System. Kristi has been recognized for her outstanding work in the children's section of the library and for her dedication and specialization in the library's children's programming. - Douglas County Fire recognized Cory Shelton, Battalion Chief, for all his service to the community. Shelton started his career with the Douglas County Fire Department in May 1995 and has since helped many communities in his position as a firefighter. He described his deployment to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina as a life-changing experience for him and has further pushed him to continue helping people.
