- Douglas County Board of Commissioners Vice-Chairman Tarenia Carthan presented her first State of the County address on Apr. 19. Speaking to an audience that included residents, business owners, and local stakeholders, she declared the county to be "resilient." Vice-Chairman Carthan noted some of the county's recent achievements, such as earmarking funds for fighting hunter, youth initiatives, and housing. She reviewed how Douglas County worked with the state to fund the driver's license facility that is currently under construction. Vice-Chairman Carthan also outlined the "Douglas Forward 2025" five-year plan, which includes six strategic goals that will guide the county as it sets priorities. (CelebrateDouglasCounty.com)
- The Douglas County School System is accepting applications for School Choice Transfers until Apr. 27. With this system, parents can request that their child be transferred to another public school within the district for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. - The Douglasville Police Department is hosting a Town Hall meeting tonight (Apr. 25) at 6:30 p.m. at 2083 Fairburn Road. The topics of discussion will include the department's use of force policy, active shooters, and efforts to address youth violence. Light refreshments will be available. - Registration is now open for Camp Pathways, a specialized two-week camp hosted by Douglasville Parks for children with autism and intellectual or developmental disabilities.
