  1. Former Birmingham mayor Cooper Green’s grandson, Dewey Green, has been sentenced to life in prison in Georgia after ramming a woman's car and then running her over in 2014. After originally being convicted in 2015, a Georgia Supreme Court overturned that ruling in November 2019 because a key witness’ testimony was excluded. Green, now 31, was found guilty in Douglas County and was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus 40 years, for felony murder and three counts of aggravated assault. (AL.com)
  2. Thousands of Georgians finally received their SNAP benefits the day before Thanksgiving after unusual delays. The Georgia Department of Human Services said the delay was due to an influx of applications coupled with staffing shortages. "If I didn't get them, my kids wouldn't have had a Thanksgiving," said Douglasville resident Samantha Abrams said. "That would've been the saddest thing. I really would've fallen into a deep depression." (11Alive.com WXIA)
  3. Douglasville police officers were dispatched to a call of a person shot on Nov. 23. The call came in at 5:28 p.m. and officers went to the Stewarts Mill Apartments where the suspect was taken into custody. The victim was transported to a local hospital. The investigation is ongoing and there were no further details as of Friday evening. (Douglasville Police Department via Facebook)
  4. The Georgia Supreme Court reinstated the state's law banning abortion after six weeks of pregnancy on Wednesday. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney had overturned the ruling last week citing it was "unconstitutional." Though Wednesday's decision is not the final word on the law, it did ban abortion at six weeks immediately. (Subscription: Douglas County Sentinel)
