Training Complex Renamed For Douglas County’s First Fire Chief

DOUGLASVILLE, GA – The Douglas County Fire and EMS Department hosted a ceremony Saturday to rename its training facility to the L. Wayne Arrington Fire and EMS training facility in honor and memory of Douglas County’s first fire chief.

Many firefighters, family, and friends along with elected officials from the County and State gathered for the outdoor ceremony. Douglas County Fire Chief Scott Spencer delivered brief remarks describing the remarkable and influential impact Arrington made on him and the department as a whole.

“Chief Arrington pushed me beyond anything I felt I could do and I feel I’m a better man for that,” Chief Spencer said.

Chief Arrington’s widow, Dale Arrington, spoke briefly at the ceremony thanking all who attended and the members of the Douglas County Fire Department. Arrington said, “We could not live without you guys and for everything you did for Wayne and me.”

DeNyse Signs, a locally based company, donated the signage to go on the facility and was present at the ceremony.

Chief Arrington passed away March 22, 2017.

In March 2018, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a resolution to rename the training complex the L. Wayne Arrington Fire/EMS Training Facility. Some of those same members of the Board of Commissioners, who approved the resolution to rename the training complex, attended the ceremony.

Douglas County Board of Commissioners, Chairman Romona Jackson Jones, District 1 Commissioner Mitchell, III, and District 3 Commissioner Tarenia Carthan were all in attendance.

Members of the Georgia House of Representatives were also in attendance for the renaming ceremony. District 61 Majority Caucus, Vice-Chairman Rep. Micah Gravely (R) and District 61 State Rep. Roger Bruce (D) attended the celebration.
