DOUGLASVILLE, GA -- Douglasville officials announced the City will be celebrating “Georgia Cities Week” April 21-27.

The city will be holding a variety of events throughout the week, including The Ultimate Block Party hosted by Main Street Douglasville, a 2nd Grader’s visit to the City and The Better Together Volunteer Luncheon. The theme of this year’s Georgia Cities Week is “Cities in the Spotlight,” highlighting cities’ important role in the state’s history, economy and every-day activities of residents.

One of the most anticipated events of the week is the 2nd Grader’s visit to City Hall. 2nd Grader’s from local Douglasville elementary schools come out and get a miniature version of the “Dose of Douglasville” Citizen’s Academy. Students will have the opportunity to visit with Public Safety and see the K9 dogs. Douglas County Fire Station #10 will have their fire trucks and equipment out to demonstrate how they operate. Public services will also give a demonstration to the students with their equipment. Community Relations will bring the kids inside to give them a fun and inside look on working with a green screen. Lastly, the young students will have their very own mock city council meeting, where they’ll be voting on agenda items. The goal at the end is to let the children leave with having had an inside look at local government operations and how it works.
