Wellstar Douglas Hospital Named 'Top Hospital' This Month
WellStar Douglas Hospital in Douglasville was recognized for the second time this month.
From The Leap Frog Group: For the second time in the past month, WellStar Douglas Hospital was named a Top Hospital for safety. The two honors were given to Douglas Hospital independently, the first byGeorgia Trend magazine and most recently by a national hospital safety watchdog called The Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog’s Top Hospital designation is widely acknowledged as one of the most prestigious distinctions a hospital can receive in the U.S. Of 56 hospitals to receive the honor, Douglas Hospital was the sole recipient in Georgia.
“Our focus is always on doing what’s best for the patient,” said Craig Owens, president of WellStar Douglas Hospital. “Our dedication to safety has translated to some great recognition for our team members. Our goal remains to deliver world-class healthcare to our patients.”
The highest performing hospitals on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey are recognized annually with the prestigious Leapfrog Top Hospital award. Top Hospitals have higher quality maternity care and better systems in place to prevent medication errors and lower readmission rates.

“Being acknowledged as a Top Hospital is an incredible feat achieved by less than three percent of hospitals nationwide,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “With this honor, WellStar Douglas Hospital has established its commitment to safer and higher quality care. Providing this level of care to patients in Douglas County requires motivation and drive from every team member. I congratulate the board, staff and clinicians whose efforts made this honor possible.”
