  1. A Douglas County jury has convicted 48-year-old Ronika Carswell of felony murder and aggravated battery for an incident that occurred in April 2020. According to an investigation by the Douglasville Police Department, Carswell and her boyfriend had gotten into a dispute at a Quiktrip. As Carswell left the Quiktrip in her vehicle, the boyfriend clung on until he eventually fell off on the ramp to I-20; the victim succumbed to his injuries at Grady Hospital.   2. The Douglas County Chamber recently shared the honorees for the 2023 CelebrateHER Awards. The event, which aims to uplift and celebrate Douglas County women making a difference in the community, will be held on Thursday, Jun. 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Douglasville Conference Center.   3. The Oregon Ducks women's basketball team has welcomed Kennedi Williams, a Douglasville native, to their roster for the 2023-24 season. Williams showcased her skills during her four-year tenure with the Liberty Flames, playing in all 124 games and earning accolades for her performance. She also ranked as the third-best assist provider in the state of Georgia, where she impressed during her high school career at Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross. (GoDucks.com)
  4. The Douglasville Police Department's inaugural "Rising Men Taking Authority Conference' is scheduled to take place on Jun. 3 at the department's Community Room. The conference will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and focus on men's medical issues, financial planning, and family leadership.
