Leaving earlier or later could mean sitting in the car less, or it could also mean finishing an entire audiobook. New U.S. Census Bureau data looked at 5 years of commuting patterns in and around Douglasville.

It found that the highest percentage of workers in Douglasville start their commute between 7 a.m. and 7:29 a.m. The second most frequent window was between 7:30 a.m. and 7:59 a.m.

Within the city, the third most frequent start for the commute was 8 a.m., but you're more likely to head out at 6 a.m. if you live in Douglas County.

Twenty-seven percent of commuters in Douglasville work a non-traditional shift, heading to work between 9 a.m. and midnight. That's higher than the state and national average of fewer than one-in-four commuters.

The census released the figures Thursday as part of the American Community Survey, which collected five years of data on more than 40 topics, including several questions about the local commute.
