Duluth Middle School Teacher Named Georgia MS Science Teacher of Year

Jennifer Burley, a teacher at Duluth Middle School, was recently selected as the 2013 Middle School Science Teacher of the Year. The Georgia Science Teachers Association honored Burley during its awards banquet Feb. 23 in Macon.

Each year, GSTA recognizes excellence in science teaching through its awards and recognition program. The organization selects a “Teacher of the Year” for each level – elementary, middle, and high school.

Since 2004, Burley has taught seventh grade science to Duluth Middle students where she was selected as the school’s Teacher of the Year for the 2009-2010 school year.

She began her education career in DeKalb County in 2001. Burley holds a bachelor’s degree in Geology and Environmental Sciences and Policy from Clemson University, a master’s degree in Science Education from Georgia State University, and a specialist’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Piedmont College.

The Georgia Science Teachers Association is a professional
organization dedicated to improving science teaching at all levels, pre-school through university. The mission of GSTA is to provide leadership and service for science education.

The current membership of more than 2,000 includes science teachers, science supervisors, administrators, scientists,and representatives of business and industry.
