Gwinnett Police Chief Charles Walters appointed interim manager Sgt. Charles “Chip” Moore to the position of manager of the Animal Welfare and Enforcement Section of the Gwinnett County Police Department effective Saturday, March 30. The decision to appoint Sgt. Moore was reached after two nationwide searches for a new manager were conducted.
Sgt. Moore took charge of the Animal Welfare and Enforcement Section as the interim manager in early 2012. His leadership during this period brought many improvements to the organization, including a more robust volunteer program, a new partnership with Homeless Pet Clubs, an improved rescue group outreach program, an increased number of special adoption events both at the shelter and in the community, classes for pets and owners, and expanded public education. Sgt. Moore’s efforts led directly to an increase in pet adoptions and a decrease in euthanasia rates, saving a record breaking 4,543 animals in 2012.
“Over the last 13 months Chip has exhibited the highest quality leadership and concern for the needs of Gwinnett County citizens and employees of the shelter,” said Chief Walters. “His appointment is a key factor in the continual improvement of the Animal Welfare and Enforcement Section.”
