Isaac Delays Start of GOP Convention in Tampa
As Tropical Storm Isaac approaches Tampa, Republican officials Saturday announced the convention would not convene until Tuesday afternoon.

Citing concern about the safety of delegates, Republcan Party officials on Saturday delayed Monday’s scheduled start of the national GOP convention in Tampa as Tropical Storm Isaac approached Florida, according to the Huffington Post and other news media reports.
A procedural roll call vote that would have been conducted Monday has been moved to Tuesday afternoon.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus issued the following statement:

“Due to the severe weather reports for the Tampa Bay area, the Republican National Convention will convene on Monday, August 27th, and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th, exact time to follow.”
Delegates normally would have been bused in for the roll call vote on Monday, but bridges linking nearby cities to downtown Tampa may flood if Isaac brings heavy rains, making travel dangerous.

A party for delegates and a concert headlined by Lynyrd Skynyrd are still scheduled for Sunday despite the threat of bad weather posed by Isaac.
