Notre Dame Academy Initiates 'Charitable You'

Parents drop off gently worn clothing, designer shoes and handbags to be sold online.

Notre Dame Academy in Duluth has initiated a new fund-raising program called “Charitable You” that benefits the school. Founded by Joe DeSantis, the program generates funds for need-based scholarships.

Parents donate high quality, high-end, gently worn clothing and accessories to be sold on websites such as eBay, according to a press release issued by the school. “The secret with eBay is brand names,” said DeSantis. “This is a way for parents to feel that they are contributing to the organization that is educating their child.” The goods are dropped off on the way to school, and the money is donated directly to the school once the items are sold.

“This is a creative way for our school community to contribute directly to the learning environment here at Notre Dame Academy. The proceeds from the Charitable You campaign will be used for need-based scholarships,” said Debra Orr, the Head of School. The school collected more than 100 items, including designer shoes and handbags, for a fund-raising effort that ended May 20.
