DULUTH, GA — A 60-year-old man was recently saved from a creek bed in Duluth after disappearing from Breckinridge Boulevard, Gwinnett County Police said Tuesday.

The man ran from a female family member on Oct. 2 in the 2700 block of Breckinridge and notified officers, police said.

During a search, officers with the police department's Aviation Unit were able to find the man in a wooded area near Breckinridge, police said.

Cpl. William Webb then found the man, who police said "became scared and ran further into the woods." Sgt. Brandon Townley and Sika, his tracking dog, then started searching the woods with other members of the K9 Unit.

Sika then found the man, "who got scared and jumped into a creek bed," police said in a news release.

Police added the man had gotten stuck in the creek bed and needed assistance with getting out of it.

Bodycam footage a little longer than 2 minutes appears to show officers being guided to the man by Sika. Patch has reviewed the footage released Tuesday by Gwinnett County Police.

An officer who police said identified as Webb is then seen lowering himself down into the creek bed, where the man was then seen holding on to the side.

Police said Webb used a spare dog leash to wrap around the man's waist as depicted in the video footage.

"Hold on, buddy, I gotcha," Webb is heard saying in the video. "You're all hooked."

The video seemed to show Webb helping the officers to hoist the man out of the creek bed to safety.

Police said the man did not have any significant injuries and was reunited with his family.

Sika joined Gwinnett County Police in 2022 and "has played a critical role in both locating suspects and missing people since that time," police said.
