Power Grab and Overreach Continues

It does not matter under what administration or what letter in the alphabet follows the name of the person in office when we have a breach of personal privacy, an alarm awakens within me to alert all who will listen that we are living in a time of dangerous government overreach.

The link tells the story about abuse of power being inflicted on the people of our nation. It is true we must have means to protect our country from terrorists and terror plots. It is also true that American citizens deserve the freedom of knowing their personal life is not going to be examined without their knowledge. There are people from outside and inside our nation who do not like us and are trying to destroy our way-of-life. There are power hungry people who will stop at nothing to invade our personal life under the guise of protecting all other citizens.

The issue is not the threats from outside our country, but the threats from those inside our nation who are seeking to destroy our freedoms and to further enslave us to government control. I am an aggressive advocate of freedom of speech and freedom of the press in our country. Many people in our world have never known the pleasure of having those two freedoms. Government controlled speech and government run media are imposed on many other nations. We must never let that come to America any more than it already has. Warnings are now being issued to alert us to what happens when government overreaches into the private lives of the citizens.

We do not need elected government officials insisting they have the right to invade the privacy of the citizens. We must allow for free and open debate as we consider all issues that we face as a nation. The media sources and outlets must be allowed to do their work, unharmed and without restraint, in order to bring the greatest amount of light upon all actions of government at every level.  

There are people in all levels of government office who would like nothing more than to be able to conduct all the public business out of public view. That must never be allowed. We must insist on accountability from those people elected to serve the good of the public. Closing doors, not allowing reporters free access, and finding laws that allow for covering up decisions must never be tolerated by freedom loving people.

I did not like government overreach during the Bush administration and I do not like government overreach that is taking place during the Obama administration. For me, this is not a partisan issue but a serious issue of freedom. It does not matter what party is in power, the temptation to overreach and to abuse power is always there. From where I stand, as overreach is exposed to public view, we must be willing to stand against the tyranny and bring an immediate stop to it.
