The Nautical Nest Opens in Duluth
Nautically themed cafe, deli and catering company offers soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, and fresh bakery desserts.
The Nautical Nest, which recently opened in Duluth, is not a seafood restaurant as diners might expect. It’s a cozy cafe, deli and catering company featuring soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, and fresh bakery desserts.
The décor has a nautical theme, reflecting a love of the sea, boats, piers, and lighthouses, and menu items have nautical names. The Nautical Nest is the first restaurant for owner Christopher Ess.
Ess, a native of Buffalo, NY, who has nearly 20 years experience in the grocery industry, has lived in the Atlanta area for the past five years. "I always wanted to open my own place," he said.

The nautical art displayed on the walls and throughout the restaurant is part of his extensive collection. A boating enthusiast, "I'm off to the ocean or the lake any chance I get," Ess said.
Operating hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and closed Sunday. Breakfast, lunch and catering menus are posted on the website.
