Unparalleled Service by Duluth Police Detective

Scam artists are not as smart as they think they are. Not with Detective Jay and the Duluth Police Department on the case.

On April 23, 2024 I went to the Duluth Police Station to report a scam I was involved in since October of 2023. I was embarrassed just to be admitting that I was indeed getting scammed. It was a “romance scam” and I didn’t want to believe it much less admit it. This guy scammed me out of more than $100,000.

The following is a short version of how I fell into this situation. I was on my computer and thought I would ask a celebrity to write a song about the importance of grandparents. I had never tried anything like this before. I was very ignorant of internet fraud, scams, and trickery. I selected the Fan page for this Celebrity to ask my question. Within the hour the “celebrity” emailed back. We started a dialog and kept in touch via emails, chat rooms, and several on line apps., since October 2023. During that period of time he asked for money to get back to United States for medical treatments. He said he was getting divorced and all the marital assets were frozen. He was to pay back double the cash and Apple gift cards I sent. I fell for it and complied. You get the picture.

Upon arrival at the Duluth Police Station I checked in with the receptionist (I was in tears) and she in turn had Sgt. Addington come out to hear my story right away. Sgt. Addington was very concerned, attentive, and calming as I talked (and cried) out my story. He was aware of this type of scam. Apparently it’s been happening for some time now and senior citizens are the target group.

A week later I received a call from Detective Jay to follow up with more questions. I had more information to give him. He did tell me that my money was probably unrecoverable because these scammers were mostly out of the country and FBI doesn’t have jurisdiction to do anything about it unless it’s over one million dollars. So I didn’t have much hope.

Detective Jay did not just stop there. He continued to work on my case. Detective Jay wanted the best turn out for me .

Detective Jay spent many hours investigating. When he was finished he wrote a report of findings and sent the report to the FBI. He took actions I thought couldn’t be done and more. I would not hesitate to ask him further questions. He is a nice man and well qualified for his job. Since I am a senior citizen detective Jay made sure to send me a list of senior programs I could get familiar with. Please be aware of scammers on line, cell phone calls, emails, text messages.
