Atlanta Jewish Community Center Receives Bomb Threat: Authorities

Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta​ given all-clear after Tuesday night bomb threat, officials say.

DUNWOODY, GA -- The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta received a bomb threat late Tuesday, the second this year, Patch has learned.

The latest incident comes amid a string of bomb threats targeting Jewish centers around the country.

CEO Jared Powers said the building was searched by law enforcement officers and was given the OK.

"We must not let this threat deter us from the responsibility we have to be the safe, welcoming, inclusive, and diverse communal town square for the 55,000 people who walk through our doors each year," Powers said in the letter sent to supporters, according to WXIA.

The incident was found to be a "non-credible threat," Dunwoody Police spokesman Mark Stevens told local media.

On Sunday, Jewish institutions received bomb threats in Wisconsin, New York and Texas.

The Atlanta office of the Anti-Defamation League was the targeted of a bomb threat on March 7, as Patch previously reported. The building was evacuated and later cleared by authorities.

The ADL said the organization has been targeted more than 120 times since early January. "It is time for action, and we call on the Administration and Congress to take concrete steps to catch those threatening the Jewish community."

The Marcus Jewish Community Center, along with two area mosques, received a bomb threat in early January.

The community center is located on Tilly Mill Road in Dunwoody.
