Commissioner Candidates to Speak at Forum

A weekend forum in Dunwoody for District 1 candidates will be open to the public.

Candidates for the District 1 DeKalb County Commissioner will be featured in a forum on Oct. 5 held at the Kingsley Clubhouse, 2325 N. Peachtree Way in Dunwoody.

In a forum open to the public, the candidates will speak in front of the Dunwoody Homeowners’ Association at the event, which begins at 7 p.m.

Former commissioner Elaine Boyer resigned after charges of multiple counts of wire and mail fraud during her 20 years in the position. The new commissioner will finish out Boyer’s term.

The candidates are:

  • Nancy Jester of Dunwoody, who has served on both the Dunwoody and Brookhaven school boards.
  • Wendy Butler of Brookhaven, a land use attorney who has been on the board of directors for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority and the county planning commission.
  • Tom Owens, a Vietnam War veteran and graduate of Georgia State University.
  • Larry Danese, a retired engineer who ran for mayor of Brookhaven.
  • Holmes E. Pyle, a retired member of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
