Dunwoody Nature Center to Hold Great Backyard Bird Count

Reservations are recommended for the free event.

How many species of birds live on the grounds of Dunwoody Park?

You can help find out by joining Dunwoody Nature Center’s Great Backyard Bird Count.

The center will offer classes for adults and children to participate in this year’s count. Lessons will include information about species identification, the importance of the bird count, the basics of bird observation and how to correctly tally the number you see into the Great Backyard Bird Count website.

After an introduction, participants can roam the 22 acres of Dunwoody Park to do the bird count. Prime viewing areas include the tree house pavilion, education building, gazebo, Wildcat Creek and the miles of trails.

Classes are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14, at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. and Monday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m. and noon. After the class, you can plan to birdwatch all day — or however long you’d like.
