I-85 Bridge Collapse: Alternate Routes, Traffic Info, Open Streets

BREAKING: Traffic on surface streets surrounding I-85 is expected to be heavy all day. Here are the open routes.

ATLANTA, GA — One day after a fire that collapsed a section of Interstate 85, Friday commuters were trying to make their way around Atlanta.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials said that in addition to the southbound lanes of I-85, the northbound lanes need to be replaced as well, citing safety concerns.

Repairing the roadway traveled by nearly 250,000 vehicles a day will take "several months," officials said, a guarantee of sustained road woes for commuters.
