Memorial Announced For Dunwoody Student Who Died In Florida
On Sunday, April 9, the church is inviting youths to gather in memory of Phineas Haq. A memorial service is set for Saturday, April 15.
DUNWOODY, GA -- Dunwoody youths will gather Sunday in remembrance of Phineas Haq, a teenager who died earlier in the week during spring break in Florida.
Phineas, a sophomore, passed away on April 4 when he fell while running, the school's basketball coach told local media. The tragic development has shocked the close-knit communities of Dunwoody High School and Dunwoody United Methodist Church, which he and his family were a part of.
The news of Phineas' passing has spurred an outpouring of support from people online, including the hashtag #PhineasStrong. His church has asked members to don a blue ribbon in remembrance of the teen.
"May God's comforting hand be with him and upon his family and friends," City Councilman Terry Nall said on Facebook.

Andrew Chappell, a youth minister at Dunwoody United Methodist Church, posted this online bulletin on Thursday:
We are all deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Phineas Haq. He was a beloved member of this Church and community, and many of us are at a loss for words. It has been particularly difficult in this time of grief because many of us have been in so many different places on spring break. That is why I think it is important for us to be together. Sunday evening, April 9th, from 6:30-7:00 pm we will come together in the Youth Area of Dunwoody United Methodist Church to remember Phineas.
