Primrose Provides Holiday Meals to Those in Need
Children Earn Money to Provide Holiday Meals for the Sandy Springs Community Assistance Center.
More than thirty Pre-Kindergarten and After-School Children from Primrose School of Dunwoody saw the fruits of their labor as they unloaded grocery purchases and donated them to the Community Assistance Center of Sandy Springs. Food items were purchased with money the children earned for performing household chores at home, and they were donated to help families in need this holiday season. A portion of the chore money was also given in the form of a check to the Community Assistance Center of Sandy Springs for $750.
Recently, students combined (and learned to count) their earnings, created a detailed shopping list and hit the aisles of Publix Super Market at Dunwoody Hall Shopping Center. As part of the school’s Caring and Giving program, this event helps students understand the value of generosity while creating a hands-on approach to math, nutrition and planning skills.
In addition to purchasing food items at Publix, Primrose Dunwoody also collected cans for over two weeks in November. The cans collected at school combined with the cans purchased at Publix totaled 1,377. The children’s donation of food items comes when American families find themselves in critical need. According to the USDA, about 49 million people – including 16 million children – are struggling with hunger in the U.S.
