Jason Clark of Southeastern Reptile Rescue paid a visit to the Dunwoody Library Tuesday, and brought some slithering creatures -- a copperhead, rattlesnake and a blacktail cribo, among them -- that got different reactions from the crowd of kids and adults.
Some gasped. At least one girl backed away when he placed a rattlesnake on the display table, even though she was in the last row of the audience and a safe distance away, as everyone was.
And Clark shared real-life stories of snake encounters (some that ended fatally) that were meant to emphasize his message: be aware, and use safety and common sense, when out in nature -- including your yard -- where snakes can be found (copperheads are common in our area).
