- Atlanta-based Peachtree Orthopedics, serving East Cobb among other metro-area locales, suffered a data breach and posted notice to consumers on May 12. Per Peachtree, an authorized party gained access to the company's computer network, including access to information like consumers' names, addresses, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, Social Security numbers, medical treatment and diagnosis information, treatment costs, financial account information, and health insurance claims and provider information. Peachtree has begun notifying all affected individuals. The situation is still evolving as of Wednesday, May 24, and the full impact of the breach has not been determined yet. (JD Supra)
- The new campus for Eastvalley Elementary School has been subject to delays, and won't open to the public until the 2023-2024 school year begins Aug. 1. Cobb County School District says the issue at hand is the supply chain: "We are told that our new building should be completed around Fall break. We know this timing is not ideal, but the construction team assures us that every step is being taken to complete the project as soon as possible. Until then teaching and learning will continue in our current building." (East Cobb News)
- The Silver Pen program, a 25-year-old initiative of the Kiwanis Club of Marietta Golden K, is presented to Cobb County fourth-grade students for a comprehensive written on a topic assigned by the Club. This year, Silver Pen awards have been given at three Cobb County schools: Acworth, Rocky Mount, and Tritt Elementary Schools. The recipients are, Acworth, Rocky Mount, and Tritt respectively: Ashley Lanagan, James Thorpe, and Deanna Munk. Each winner was given a silver pen in a velvet sleeve, a roll of $25 uncirculated one-dollar coins from the Philadelphia Mint, and an engraved plaque. (East Cobb News)
