East Cobb Cityhood Group To Host Town Hall Soon
A cityhood group will host a town hall to discuss the upcoming referendum, and it's already at capacity. Online viewing is in the works.
EAST COBB, GA — With the upcoming referendum for voters to say whether or not to create a city of East Cobb, the Committee for East Cobb Cityhood is set to host an in-person town hall meeting to go over the referendum — and the event is already at capacity, with online options in the works.
The cityhood group is hosting the town hall at Olde Towne Athletic Club, 4950 Olde Towne Parkway, at 6 p.m. on March 7. It's only open for those living within the proposed city boundaries.
The event room has a capacity of 300 people, East Cobb News reported, and the town hall "sold out" quickly. The group is working to livestream the town hall on its Facebook page.

The proposed city of East Cobb would have a similar geographic size as the city of Marietta at roughly 25 square miles, centered around Johnson Ferry Road. If approved by voters, the proposed city would have a population of nearly 60,000 people and become one of the three largest cities in Cobb County.
The city would also have a mayor and six city council members elected citywide rather than by specific districts, as well as police, fire, planning and zoning and code enforcement services.

The Committee for East Cobb Cityhood set up an interactive map, available here, which allows residents to search by address to see if their neighborhood is in the proposed city.
Voters within the boundaries will be asked on a May 24 referendum the following question: "Shall the Act incorporating the city of East Cobb in Cobb County according to the charter contained in the Act be approved?" They can then answer yes or no.
