Here are the top three stories in East Cobb today:
- East Cobber magazine has announced the return of its signature festival and parade after a nearly four-year break. The event is set for Saturday, Sep. 9, with the parade kicking off at Mt. Bethel Elementary School at 10:00 a.m. The parade will end at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, where the festival will continue until 5:00 p.m. This year will mark the 25th anniversary of the East Cobber parade. - Four East Side Elementary School Students wrote winning essays for the 2023 Delta Community Credit Union Youth Essay Contest! The contest was open to students in third, fourth, and fifth grade. There were more than 130 entries in the essay contest, and Delta Community chose seven winners from each grade level. Each winning student was awarded a $100 youth savings account. (East Cobb News)
- In nearby Marietta, two people were injured on Saturday night in a crash on I-75 South near North Marietta Parkway. Officials said Elias Sauceda, a 21-year-old from Dickinson, Texas, was driving a Chevy Silverado with one passenger when the car left its lane and hit a Nissan Altima driven by Briana Daughtery, 30, from Loganville. Marietta police said the Chevy flipped over and both vehicles hit the guardrail after leaving the roadway. Both Sauceda and their passenger were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. (WSB TV)

- The Cobb County Board of Commissioners is inviting public comments on its draft 2023 - 2028 strategic plan. Public hearings are scheduled for May 9 and May 23 at 100 Cherokee Street. A copy of the draft plan can be viewed here. (Cobb County Government via Facebook)
- The American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive today (May 9) from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the South Cobb Regional Library in nearby Mableton. You can click here to make an appointment, but walk-ins are also welcome. (Cobb County)
