- A five-year-old boy from East Cobb was the grand prize winner at the the Cobb Gem and Mineral Show. Carson Konopelski's entry was a carcharocles megalodon, also known as a "big tooth" shark. The tooth from an extinct shark measured seven inches long, indicating it came from an animal that was 45-50 feet long. Carson donated the tooth to the school of his choice, the Rocky Mount Elementary School STEM lab. (East Cobb News)
- Military Academy Day was a success at the nearby Dobbins Air Reserve Base on Saturday. More than 100 children from across Georgia attended the event along with a bipartisan group of state representatives. The event focused on young people who are interested in joining the military. Attendees were able to learn about the country's military academies and hear from representatives from each branch of the military. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- A former Columbus mayoral candidate was arrested in Muscogee County for outstanding warrants in Cobb County. Zephaniah Dwayne Baker had active warrants for kidnapping, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, as well as misdemeanor warrants for battery and third-degree cruelty to children. Baker has unsuccessfully run for several state and local offices since 2008, including the positions of Columbus mayor and a city council seat. According to Baker's website, he has led anti-violence initiatives, including a program for at-risk youth. There is no information yet on when he will be transferred to the Cobb County jail. - The Cobb County Police Department will be hosting a Public Service Career Fair this Saturday. The event is set to take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 545 S. Fairground St. in nearby Marietta. The department is hiring for multiple positions, including E-911 operators, police officers, and more. (Cobb County Government)
- This year's State of the County has been set for Thursday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the Jennie T. Anderson Theater. Cobb County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Lisa Cupid will be hosting the event. Click here to RSVP. (Cobb County Government)
