- After several months of drug investigations, five individuals were arrested in Georgia for trafficking fentanyl. A traffic stop on Jun. 29 led police officers to execute a search warrant at a motel in Commerce and a home in Maysville. There, police found suspected fentanyl and seized four firearms before making numerous arrests. Multiple law enforcement entities aided in the investigation, including the Gainesville branch of the FBI. (Valdosta Today)
- On Jul. 14, Gainesville brings in 100 tons of sand to turn the plaza at Lake Lanier Olympic Park into the ultimate beach party! Enjoy food, sand, and fun at this year's Beach Bash. - On Sunday night, the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft began, and Georgia shined bright with five former high school players selected in the first round. Parkview High School star Colin Houck, who won the WSB-TV Montlick Injury Attorneys 2023 Male Athlete of the Year award, was selected by the Mets. While Thomasville's Hurston Waldrep was selected to play for the Atlanta Braves. (WSB TV)
