- A Gainesville man, Robert Maggio, has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a firearm in connection to the shooting death of Shane Gilleland. The incident occurred at Maggio's home on Belvedere Drive in Hall County, Georgia. Gilleland and his girlfriend had been living with Maggio for a brief period before the shooting. Maggio was arrested following an interview with investigators, and the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- The University of North Georgia (UNG) has launched its first cohort for an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) track in partnership with Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS). The program allows students with a bachelor's or master's degree in another subject to complete their nursing degree in just 15 months. The ABSN track aims to address the nursing shortage and provide quick entry into the nursing field. UNG's nursing program has a high success rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) and a 100% job placement rate. (WGAU)
- The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) has partnered with 37 local restaurants and retailers for the Restaurants & Retailers for Rescues event taking place from Jun. 19-23. The event aims to save lives and raise awareness for animal rescues. By participating, individuals can make a difference in the lives of HSNEGA rescues and show support for homeless animals.
