  1. Gainesville School District will name the library of the Enola Multiple Intelligences Academy after local educator, Lucile Carter. Carter was a long-time educator and a school board member. The idea was presented at the school board meeting Monday, with plans to ratify it on Jun. 20. The recently deceased 90- year -old community activist will be honored with a plaque and portrait in the Enola Library. (Subscription: Gainesville Times)
  2. Krystal Sewell, a graduate of the University of North Georgia (UNG), overcame a life-threatening car accident during her college years and has now been accepted into the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP). Sewell, who earned a degree in chemistry with a biochemistry concentration, aspires to become a research principal investigator who promotes accessibility in her labs and lectures. Three other UNG alumnae, Chloé Allen, Haley Shea Barfield, and Brooke Tate Smith, also received acceptance into the NSF GRFP and shared their experiences and aspirations in their respective fields of study.   3. The Gainesville High School Boys' Basketball Team has a new coach, Charlemagne Gibbons. Gibbons has expressed he is impressed with his new team as they began camp.   • The City of Gainesville Public Works Department has recently introduced all-way stops at the intersections of Fair Street at Positive Place and Fair Street at College Avenue to improve pedestrian safety.
