Here are the top three stories in Gainesville today:

  1. Gainesville's Mitchell Gross is being honored as baseball pitcher of the week. Quote the Sun Belt Conference, "In just his second start of the season, Georgia Southern sophomore left-handed pitcher Mitchell Gross tossed a career-high 7.0 scoreless innings with a career-best eight strikeouts to lift the Eagles to a 6-1 series-clinching victory over Marshall." (Sun Belt Conference)
  2. New Collegiate Grill in Gainesville's downtown will be reopening in May under the new management of the owners of nearby Sweet Magnolia's Cafe & Bakery, Paresh and Dharma Patel. The Patels don't plan to change the local institution's menu and will be retaining employees from previous owners the Worley family. The Worleys parted ways with the restaurant after 15 years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Former owner Jeff Worley reported that the restaurant never fully recovered due to ongoing staffing issues. (The Gainesville Times)
  3. Gas prices throughout Georgia have declined on average so far this week compared to last. Georgian motorists are paying an average of $3.37 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline as of Apr. 24. Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman, noted that the dropping price of crude oil caused gas prices to decline. (ValdostaToday.com)
