Crack Open Your Piggy Bank to Save Police Dogs - Douglasville Patch

Children and adults around the county are emptying out their penny cans and secret change stashes for a good cause this month, contributing all of their change to Pennies for Police Dogs charity Drive.

This year's Pennies for Police Dogs competition started last week and will continue through Friday. This is the fourth year that Douglasville area schools are competing to see who can raise the most money to help fight canine cancer. Lt. Michael Barnhill, Douglas County Sheriff's Department and local organizer for the event, said more than $10,500 was raised in the first two years and 1,400 pounds of change was collected last year.

Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC)in Stone Mountain says Aimee Copeland, the woman in Snellville who contracted a flesh-eating bacteria last May, will be at its .

Copeland required several amputations, including her left leg, right foot and both hands, after she contracted a flesh-eating bacteria following a zipline accident.

Atlanta Police Arrested Suspected 'Buckhead Bandit' - Buckhead Patch

Atlanta police say they have arrested the suspect dubbed the 'Buckhead Bandit' and charged him in five business robberies in the Midtown and Buckhead area, according to Sgt. Greg Lyon.

The suspect, William Berry, 37, has been charged with the following armed robberies: Walgreens at 2983 Peachtree Road on Jan. 6; RadioShack at 2625 Piedmont Road on Jan. 7 Mattress Firm at 2625 Piedmont Road on Jan. 11; Walgreens at 2893 Peachtree Road on Jan. 23 and Subway at 2418 Marietta Boulevard on Jan. 28.
