Breaking Barriers: GEA and Google Team Up

We’re excited to share some game-changing news!

The Greater Eastside Alliance Inc. (GEA) has officially partnered with Grow with Google to offer free Career Certificate scholarships to young people in Metro Atlanta. This opportunity is open to students ages 16 to 24 from low-income households who are ready to build real-world skills in today’s most in-demand careers.

What’s the Opportunity?

Through this partnership, eligible students will gain access to Google Career Certificates—

self-paced, online programs that lead to industry-recognized credentials in:

Cybersecurity

Data Analytics

Digital Marketing & E-Commerce

IT Support

Project Management

UX Design

No college degree or previous experience is required, and each certificate can be completed in just 3 to 6 months with part-time study.

Why It Matters

“Bridging the digital divide starts with opportunity,” said Derrick J. Wilson, President of Greater Eastside Alliance. “This partnership will give young people in our communities the chance to gain the credentials they need—without racking up student debt.”

And the results speak for themselves:

Since launching in 2018, over 500,000 people worldwide (including 200,000 in the U.S.) have completed a Google Career Certificate. Within six months, 75% of graduates reported positive outcomes—like a new job, a raise, or a promotion.

Even more inspiring? Over one-third of U.S. graduates came from households making under $30,000/year, and many transitioned into careers with median salaries of $76,000.

Backed by Industry Leaders

Graduates gain access to a hiring consortium of 150+ employers—including companies like Walmart, Verizon, and Google—that are committed to considering program completers for entry-level roles.

GEA’s Bigger Mission

This scholarship program is part of GEA’s expanding Workforce Development Department, focused on reducing barriers to employment and boosting economic opportunity for underserved communities.
