Gwinnett Coalition Honors Those Who Have Cared for Gwinnett
Join the Gwinnett Cares Celebration June 17
On Friday, June 17 the Gwinnett Coalition will host the Gwinnett Cares Celebration at New Mercies Christian Church in Lilburn. The event is open to all Gwinnett Cares partners who cared for our community through COVID-19 and desire to continue to work collectively to improve the lives of all Gwinnettians.
In the face of the pandemic, community-based organizations and volunteers banded together to provide housing, food, education, health and other essential resources to countless Gwinnettians, serving and meeting the needs of the most vulnerable members of our community. Whether we were giving help or getting help, we all have someone to be thankful for and celebrate.
The event opens at 7:30 a.m. with a light breakfast and opportunity to reconnect, in-person, with old friends or those you may have only served alongside virtually. The celebration program will begin at 9:00 a.m. with top community leaders sharing a big thank you to all who have served and supported the community throughout the pandemic.

Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman, Nicole Love Hendrickson, Gwinnett Coalition CEO Renée Byrd-Lewis, Dr. Calvin J. Watts, superintendent of Gwinnett County’s Public Schools and DePriest Waddy, the Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia’s new CEO and other prominent leaders will reflect on what we have accomplished together, lessons learned and where we are going.
“Under the banner of Gwinnett Cares, the entire community banded together to support those most impacted by the pandemic,” says Byrd-Lewis. “The lesson learned is we accomplish great things when leadership and resources are aligned, and we must remember that lesson as we chart our path forward and build a more equitable community.”

Gwinnett Cares, ViewPoint Health, HomeFirst Gwinnett, Resilient Gwinnett and others will support the day with inspiring engagement opportunities and ways to stay connected.
The inaugural Gwinnett Coalition Changemaker Award will be presented, honoring someone who exemplifies driving collective impact in the community, and individuals and organizations will be recognized by their peers through the Gwinnett Coalition’s fun #CheersForChangemakers campaign.
