Junior Chiefs Head to Playoffs

The Hickory Flat team is in the final four of the GMSAA football playoffs.

The Junior Chiefs sixth-grade football team will play the this Saturday in the semi-finals of the GMSAA playoffs.

The team, made of students, serves as a feeder program into, said Coach Scott Collins.

The Junior Chiefs are 7-1 in regular season games after losing to Etowah in the second week of play, Collins said. They’re 2-0 in playoff games, leaving only the best four teams in the state to compete—Alpharetta Raiders, the Lambert Longhorns, the Hillgrove Hawks and the Sequoyah Chiefs.

Last week, the Chiefs beat Bethany Bend 20-7 in the playoffs, Collins said. 

During regular season play, the Chiefs only gave up 20 points on the defense and scored more than 300 offensively, Collins said.

The league is made up of teams from Cherokee, Cobb, Forsyth, Fulton and Paulding counties and the city of Rome.
