Police Task Force Makes $105,000 Drug Bust

A man was arrested after the Johns Creek Alpharetta Forsyth Drug Task Force allegedly found more than $105,000 in drugs in his possession.

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA A traffic stop resulted in the Johns Creek Alpharetta Forsyth Drug Task Force making a $105,000 drug bust, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said. The operation also led to the arrest of Alex Flores Avila, 48, of Lawrenceville, who was charged with trafficking marijuana and possession of THC oil with intent to distribute.

Drug Task Force members made the discovery following a Sept. 5 traffic stop on Castleberry Road near Canton Highway — just feet from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office headquarters. During the stop a police K-9 alerted to the odor of alleged illegal substances inside of the black Infiniti G35, resulting in a search of the vehicle, FCSO said.

About 12 pounds of marijuana in vacuum sealed bags and a large amount of THC oil wrapped in wax paper were both unearthed from the Infinit. The driver, identified as Avila, was arrested.

The drug task force worked in conjunction with Gwinnett Metro Task Force to secure a search warrant on Flores' Lawrenceville home. That search resulted in the seizure of approximately $105,000 dollars related to drug sales, an additional pound of marijuana and more THC oil.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office informed the public of the arrest in an Oct. 9 post on its Facebook page.

"PSA: If you are looking to traffic illegal drugs, we recommend you do not do so in the parking lot of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters," the agency's post said.
