Georgia Gwinnett College

How do you know your graduating student nominee?

He is my son.

Tell us why they deserve to be nominated!

Luke found his vocational passion during his internship in sports broadcast production with the Grizzly Digital Network, part of the Georgia Gwinnett College athletics program. He quickly rose up to take the Director's position for men's baseball, women's softball, and men's and women's soccer and was hired as a student worker immediately following the internship. He achieved a 4.0 grade point average throughout college, making the President's List every semester and graduating Summa Cum Laude. The key to all of that is in how Luke did it: while being responsible on campus for his disabled brother who daily lives with a life-threatening illness, and in gently teaching those who do not understand the rules of athletic contests. He developed his own Wiffle Ball Club to help students understand how the games of softball and baseball are played by involving them in the fun with play time to drive home what is important in building a crew. He's quite special to watch as the light bulbs begin to go off for others--including interested passers-by who are mesmerized by the instruction and quickly become part of the game.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about your graduating student nominee?

Luke was told he has "the patience of an elephant" when leading our neighborhood Olympics, a recurring event he created, organized, publicized, managed and executed to perfection starting at age 12. That is high praise from our diverse and culturally rich community! He is the epitome of embracing and living out daily diversity, equity and inclusion.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Luke!
