Here are the top three stories in Johns Creek today:
- In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion in Johns Creek, construction is progressing steadily on the Taylor Road left-turn lane project that will streamline access to Chattahoochee High School. Crews have recently installed curbs and gutters and are pouring sidewalks, with paving set for mid-July, followed by the installation of utility poles and cables. The project is slated for completion in early August, weather permitting, and residents are encouraged to stay informed by signing up for email updates or visiting the city's website. (City of Johns Creek, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
- Cauley Creek Park in Johns Creek celebrated its soft opening on Jun. 20, with city officials and community members marking the inauguration of a 5K rubberized trail, lighted sports courts, playing fields, a pedestrian bridge, and river overlooks within the 203-acre property. The park at 7255 Bell Road will hold a grand opening event from July 18-22, dubbed Cauley Creek Week, featuring sports demonstrations, carnival rides, music, food trucks, and more. While residents are encouraged to explore the new amenities, they are advised to exercise caution as landscaping and final construction details are still underway. (Johns Creek Georgia)
- Johns Creek Mayor John Bradberry and city council members have announced the winners of the Mayor’s Community Art Competition, which drew in over 40 submissions from local students. The victors, Mahi Shah from Northview High School, Minakshi Chilagani from River Trail Middle School, and Celine Ma from Findley Oaks Elementary School, impressed the judges with their 2D art pieces reflecting the theme “All the World” in Johns Creek. The winning artworks will be exhibited at City Hall and can also be viewed online at the city’s website. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)

From my notebook:
- Those seeking to welcome a furry friend into their homes can consider adopting from shelters in the Johns Creek area, where numerous pets are in need of a forever home. With ASPCA data revealing that only about half of the over 6 million animals given to shelters nationally are adopted annually, the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a local pet is immense. (Johns Creek Patch)
- The Johns Creek Police Department is holding testing on July 11th and 12th for aspiring police officers, who can expect a starting salary ranging from $55,094.12 to $86,798.02, depending on experience, education, and other factors. Additional benefits include a $5k hiring bonus for certified officers, an $800 monthly housing stipend for residing in Johns Creek, retirement contributions, medical coverage, and a personally assigned take-home car. - The Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce offices will be closed all of next week in observance of Independence Day. The offices will reopen on Monday, Jul. 10, at 9:30 a.m. (Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce via Facebook)
