Train Wreck Kills 1 Kennesaw Resident

Two other victims are from Austell.

A Kennesaw resident on her way to visit family in Toccoa was among the three people killed Friday night when an Amtrak train collided with their car, Stephens County coroner Christopher Stephens told WSB-TV this evening.

Crystal Crews, 20, of Kennesaw, died in the crash, which occurred about 9:45 p.m. May 3.

That's when a northbound train T-boned a 2008 Mazda attempting to go through an unprotected railroad crossing that was marked only with a stop sign, Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Despite WSB's report, a GSP spokesman said "the coroner is still trying to make positive identification at this time."

In an email to Patch, Shirley wrote: "We are awaiting positive identification from the crime lab through dental records. We have, I believe, the correct names but will not release pending those lab results."
