GCPS Adding More Healthy Options to School Lunches
Prices for lunch and breakfast at Gwinnett County schools will stay the same when kids return to classes Aug. 6.
Following the popularity of healthy additions last year, Gwinnett County Public Schools will be adding more options that pack a better nutritional punch.
New on the lunch lines at schools throughout the county will be:
- Asian Bowls with Lo Mein and VeggiesÂ
- Baked Sweet Potato Waffle FriesÂ
- Banana Yogurt Bars with fresh fruit toppingsÂ
- Whole Grain Biscuit Breakfast SandwichesÂ
- Cuban, Greek, and Hawaiian Specialty SandwichesÂ
- Whole Grain Flat Bread Pizzas Spicy Grilled Chicken Filet Sandwiches
Below is a breakdown of the 21,607,762 student lunches and 10,671,375 student breakfasts served in the 2011-2012 school year:

- Whole Grain Pizza - 3,143,900 servingsÂ
- 100% Orange Juice - 3,086,020 servingsÂ
- Assorted Side Salads - 2,924,092 servingsÂ
- Low Fat Strawberry Yogurt - 1,912,192 servingsÂ
- Premium, All White Meat Chicken Chunks - 1,443,114 servingsÂ
- Spring Water - 1,083,096 bottles
- Assorted Chef Salads - 651,691 servingsÂ
- Fresh Local Apples - 462,750 servingsÂ

The price for meals will remain the same as the last school year. Elementary school students will pay $2.00 for lunch and middle and high school students will pay $2.25. Reduced lunch is $0.40. Student breakfast is $1.25 and reduced breakfast is $0.30.
