GGC Baseball Signee, NGHS Grad Jones Picked Up by MLB Team
Nick Jones had accepted a scholarship to play at Georgia Gwinnett College. Instead, the Suwanee native will play for the San Francisco Giants.
He planned to play baseball at Georgia Gwinnett College, but now Nick Jones is headed to the majors.
Jones had accepted a scholarship to play for the Grizzlies after two standout season in junior college. But Jones was selected in the 14th round of the Major League Baseball draft by defending World Series champions the San Francisco Giants earlier in the month. He signed the contract with the Giants Tuesday.
“I had a fantastic opportunity to attend Georgia Gwinnett College and play for coach Brad Stromdahl,” said Jones. “Ultimately, I decided to pursue my dream of playing professional baseball and to compete at the highest levels of the sport. My connection with coach Stromdahl and the Grizzly program aided me along the way and I wish the Georgia Gwinnett squad all the best going forward.”
Jones, a 6-foot-6 pitcher and infielder, is a Suwanee native and and played baseball at North Gwinnett High School. He was named a 2013 Second Team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association this spring at Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, Ala.
